HIGH COAST TRAIL – SUSTAINABILITY
THE COMMUNITY THAT MAKES IT POSSIBLE
A race through our beautiful region
Hosting a race like the High Coast Trail in this stunning environment is a privilege we never take for granted. We are deeply grateful, to the County Administrative Board, with whom we maintain ongoing dialogue regarding Skuleskogen National Park and the Skuleberget Nature Reserve, and to the landowners who generously allow us to use sections of the High Coast Trail that run through their land. Without their permission and support, this adventure would not be possible.
This collaboration and dialogue are essential to creating the experience. Landowners don’t just allow us to pass, they actively take part in the race. A great example is the aid station run by local landowners, where the whole community shows up to help out.
Coordinating with hunters
We understand that nature is shared by many. That’s why we maintain a close dialogue with local hunting teams to ensure that our event does not interfere with the hunting season. Starting from 2025, we’ve chosen to host the High Coast Trail on the last weekend of August, giving hunters the space to begin their season undisturbed.
We also schedule the race as late in the summer as possible to minimize impact during peak season, when more visitors are in Skuleskogen National Park. This way, we make sure both nature and its visitors are treated with the respect and care they deserve.
Gas stations, grocery stores, bus companies, and top-class activities are just some of the ingredients that make the High Coast Trail attract participants from all over the world.
A community that welcomes the world
The High Coast Trail is not just a race, it’s an event that brings the entire region together. Local grocery stores make sure participants and visitors can fuel up before and after the race. Hotels, cabin villages, and private hosts renting out homes on Airbnb all help provide accommodation for the more than thousand participants who travel here each year.
Every part of this network plays an important role in creating a welcoming experience for both participants and their families. For many visiting the High Coast for the first time, it’s not just the nature that leaves an impression, but also the warmth and sense of community that define the region.
During the High Coast Trail weekend, over a thousand visitors come to the region. Thanks to hotels, cabin villages, and private homes on Airbnb, guests traveling from afar can find accommodation for the weekend.
A chance to attract new residents
The High Coast Trail is also an opportunity to open the doors to our region for more people. Of course, some participants already live here, but the majority travel from elsewhere. When visitors from across Sweden and beyond get to experience our beautiful home, it might just plant the seed of one day moving here.
With plenty of job opportunities both locally and across the region, and a quality of life that blends nature’s calm with a strong sense of community, the High Coast can become an obvious choice for those looking for something new. Every participant is a potential ambassador, sharing their positive experience and helping bring new life to available jobs and homes.
The High Coast Trail is a chance for us to showcase our home and maybe plant the idea of one day moving here. All participants receive information about job opportunities in the region through “Curious about the High Coast.”
Together for a sustainable future
Our collaboration with the local community is not just a part of the race’s success, it’s also a model for how we can develop the region in a sustainable and respectful way. By supporting local businesses, working in dialogue with landowners and hunters, and ensuring that our impact on nature is kept to a minimum, we’re not only creating an incredible event but also building a stronger, more connected community.
A big thank you to everyone who makes the High Coast Trail possible
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who makes the High Coast Trail possible: landowners, hunters, grocery stores, bus companies, accommodation providers, and all others who contribute. It’s your efforts and your willingness to share this incredible place that make this race such a unique and memorable experience.
We hope that our shared efforts not only strengthen the bonds within the community, but also inspire others to care for their local areas and the nature around them. Together, we’re building something bigger, a community that both participants and locals can be proud of.
