HIGH COAST TRAIL
GUIDE TO THE HIGH COAST TRAIL
– Valuable information if this is your first time!
The High Coast Trail is an experience and a celebration like no other. You’ll find everything you need on this website, but here we’ve gathered a few things that are especially good to know if you’re planning to join for the first time.
The High Coast Trail takes you out into the landscapes voted Sweden’s most beautiful.
OVERVIEW OF THE EXPERIENCES
3Peaks 17K »
An experience where we take on three of the High Coast’s most iconic peaks: Herrestaberget, Getsvedjeberget, and Skuleberget. With a 5-hour cut-off, there’s plenty of time to hike when needed, enjoy the views, and take breaks along the way.
Coast to Summits 28K »
A 28K challenge that takes you through some of the High Coast’s absolute highlights, Skuleskogen National Park and Skuleberget.
The Original 45K »
The original and most demanding race at 45K, where you have 12 hours to experience the highlights of the World Heritage Site and create memories for life. This one is for those looking for a real challenge.
Registration and Start slots
Start slots are released on Friday, February 28 at 15:00. Over the past 11 years, spots have sold out every time, so make sure to book early to secure your place. If you add cancellation protection and accident insurance, you can cancel in case of illness, injury, or pregnancy with a doctor’s certificate. A popular option is Startklar (155 SEK) or Startklar Plus (275 SEK), valid for all events in Sweden for one year.
Stay and logistics
All races are based in Friluftsbyn, located at the foot of Skuleberget in the heart of the High Coast World Heritage Site. Staying in Friluftsbyn is the most popular option, but there are plenty of other places to stay around the High Coast. For more information on accommodation and how to get here, click below:
Mandatory equipment
No matter which distance you take on, you’ll need to carry mandatory gear. Some items are worn, while others are carried in your running pack or vest. Random checks are carried out before, during, and after the race. Participants without the required equipment put both their own safety and the safety of the race at risk and will be disqualified.
You need to check in before your race. If you’re taking on the Original 45K, it’s a good idea to check in on Friday evening.
Check-In for your distance
When you arrive at Friluftsbyn, you check in for the distance you’re registered for. This is when you receive your bib and timing chip. To keep things running smoothly, each distance has its own check-in times. You can also check in on behalf of a friend if you have their ID or a photo of their ID.
3Peaks and Coast to Summits have their briefings on Friday before the races. The Original 45K, which starts early on Saturday morning, has its briefing on Friday evening.
After the briefing, we hope you’ve got a better feel for what’s ahead and are feeling stoked!
Tips & prep!
Before each race, we gather to go through the course and get tips from previous runners. Don’t miss this chance to meet other participants and get that final boost before the adventure. Haglöfs will be on site showcasing their latest gear and lending out lightweight jackets from the L.I.M series, while Icebug brings two full shoe walls where you can try on and even borrow shoes with perfect grip for the High Coast terrain.
During the races
On Friday, Coast to Summits 28/32K heads out first. Participants in this distance take a bus to the rolling start at Entré Syd. After that, 3Peaks sets off, starting directly from Friluftsbyn. Both Friday experiences finish back in Friluftsbyn. On Saturday morning, participants in the Original take a bus from Friluftsbyn to the start and finish at the top of Skuleberget.
All courses feature aid stations and crew along the way, bringing both energy and hype. You’ll find more detailed information on each race page, including course descriptions and full participant info with everything you need to know.
3Peaks 18K and Coast to Summits 28/32K finish in Friluftsbyn, while the Original 45K finishes at the top of Skuleberget.
Finnish line
Friday’s distances, 3Peaks 18K and Coast to Summits 28/32K, finish in Friluftsbyn. On Saturday, the Original finishes at the top of Skuleberget. The cable car to the summit runs throughout the day on Saturday.
On Saturday, participants in the Original 45K finish at the summit. Many runners from the other races head up as well, hanging out, taking in the views, and cheering others on.
After-Trail
On Friday evening, we kick off the After-Trail celebration with live music and campfires as both 3Peaks and Coast to Summits come into the finish. On Saturday evening, the celebration usually gets even bigger as the Original finishes and many runners from Friday’s races stick around.
The good vibes are one of the reasons so many people keep coming back.
We celebrate our achievements on both Friday and Saturday.
With over 1,000 participants, most of whom stick around, don’t be surprised if you run into someone you know or end up making new like-minded friends.
