RULES & SAFETY

Here you can read more about the rules that apply when registering for the High Coast Winter Trail, as well as how we work to make your participation as safe as possible. There is a shared responsibility, both on us as organizers and on you as a participant, so make sure to also read the section “participation is at your own risk.”

Rules

The course is tough. The rules are simple. As long as you understand that you participate at your own risk, bring the mandatory gear, check in on time, follow the marked trail, and leave no trace, you can focus on the challenge and where you place your feet.

Cancellation Protection & Accident Insurance

Start slots for the High Coast Trail are non-refundable, including in cases supported by a doctor’s certificate. Participation in the High Coast Trail is at your own risk. Trail running can involve risks such as damaged clothing or equipment, or personal injury. Make sure you have valid accident insurance. One option is the Startklar insurance, which covers both cancellation and accidents.

With Startklar, you’ll receive a full refund of your entry fee with no deductible if you become ill or injured and are unable to participate. This must be verified with a doctor’s certificate. Startklar costs 155 SEK and is valid for one year across all events in Sweden that you register for. Read more at www.startklar.nu

This insurance is used by most races in Sweden, including events such as Vasaloppet. If we as organizers need to cancel the race, you will receive a full refund of your entry fee regardless of whether you have insurance or not. However, insurance is required if you personally need to cancel your participation.

You can transfer your start slot to another person for an administrative fee of 100 SEK.

Littering

We place great importance on leaving the area in perfect condition, with no discarded packaging or energy gels. It is therefore strictly forbidden to litter along the course, except in the High Coast Trail bins at Entré Syd and at the finish area. If any checkpoint staff, fellow runner, or course marshal sees a runner littering, they will be disqualified immediately.

Use of toilets

It is permitted to use the toilets located in the National Park, at Friluftsbyn, and at Friluftsbyn’s Summit Cabin. However, make sure to bring your own paper, as it may run out.

External food & Drop-Bags

Since external support is almost impossible to control, we allow spectators to provide food and drinks to participants during the race.

Safety during the High Coast Trail

Trail running can involve risks, such as damaged gear or personal injury.

That said, we’ve done everything we can to create a safe race:

– The course follows existing trails, reinforced with additional markings to make navigation easier.
– A major aid station will be set up at the southern entrance of Skuleskogen National Park, where split times will also be recorded. This helps us keep track of your progress as long as you follow the course markings.
– We’ll have staff on site to guide you and answer questions at the start, Tärnättvattnet, Tärnättholmarna, Entré Syd, Skuleberget, the summit of Skuleberget, and at the finish.
– Medical staff will be present at Entré Syd and at the finish area.
– An ambulance team will be stationed at Slåttdalsberget.
– All participants will receive a contact number for race management and be reminded to call emergency number 112 in case of serious incidents.
– As a participant, you’re encouraged to look out for others and report anything that may require attention from race management.

PARTICIPATION AT YOUR OWN RISK

As organizers, we of course take responsibility for creating a race that can be carried out as safely as possible. However, we want to clearly emphasize that participation in the High Coast Trail is entirely at your own risk. Trail running involves inherent risks, such as damaged equipment or personal injury. The trails include rocks and roots, and some sections are steep, which means you need to take responsibility for your own safety and adjust your pace when needed to reduce risk.

We only use established trails that are visited by thousands of people each year, so these are not areas more hazardous than those used by hikers and runners throughout the rest of the year. That said, there is always a risk. You or your equipment may be injured or damaged, especially when fatigued or in wet conditions when roots and rocks can become slippery. A significant part of the responsibility therefore lies with you as a participant.

The High Coast Trail does not cover any costs in case of injury or damaged equipment. If you are feeling unwell or have any pain, we strongly advise against starting. Medical support, including ambulance personnel, will be present on site.

During registration, you will be asked to confirm that you have read and accepted the following:

I participate in the High Coast Trail at my own risk.

I hereby confirm that I understand the safety regulations for the High Coast Trail and that I will follow them. I am aware that there is a risk of injury in this activity and I accept that risk. I acknowledge that the High Coast Trail is not responsible for any damage to equipment or personal injury that may occur during participation.

I accept that it is strictly forbidden to participate in the High Coast Trail under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and that race management has the full right to deny participation to anyone who may pose a risk to themselves or others, without any right to financial compensation. I am personally responsible for assessing the risks related to any existing medical conditions or injuries.
