High Coast Trail
TRAIL DESCRIPTION
COAST TO SUMMITS
Welcome to a truly beautiful trail that takes us to some of the real highlights of the High Coast World Heritage Site. We start by experiencing Skuleskogen National Park before following the High Coast Trail to the mighty Mount Skuleberget.
Coast to Summits 26k consists of three stages with two energy stations. We have 7 hours to complete it.
We got this!

Stage I: 15k
SKULESKOGENS
NATIONAL PARK
Experience one of Sweden’s most beautiful National Parks and its absolute highlights. We pass by Tärnättvattnen and Slåttdalsskrevan, and climb both Slåttdalsberget and Stampberget.

Stage II: 5k
HIGH COAST TRACK
From the National Park, we follow the High Coast Track towards Mount Skuleberget. This stretch is relatively easy to run and gives you a chance to stretch your legs. Before you know it, you’ll arrive at the second energy station.

Stage III: 6k
MOUNT SKULEBERGET
THE TOP OF THE WORLD HERITAGE SITE
A real test of strength as we ascend to the top of the World Heritage Site where many gather at the Top Cabin to replenish energy. Then we follow the High Coast Trail – one of Sweden’s most beautiful trails – to the finish line.

Stage I: 15k
SKULESKOGENS
NATIONAL PARK
From FriluftsByn, buses depart to the starting point just outside the village of Käl. From there, we follow the road into the south entrance at Skuleskogen National Park, where we turn off towards Kälsviken and follow the coast until shortly before Näskebodarna. We then ascend towards Tärnättvattnen. From Tärnättvattnen, we ascend to Slåttdalsskrevan and then climb Slåttdalsberget and Stampberget before leaving the National Park and reaching the first energy station at the village of Dal.
THE START
We all take the bus to the starting point located just outside the village of Käl. From there, we follow the road to the south entrance and head towards the coast. This stretch is relatively easy to run and wakes up the body. We’re off!
KÄLSVIKEN
When we reach Kälsviken after about 2.5 kilometers, we leave the gravel roads behind and transition onto trails. You’ve had the opportunity to find a pace that suits you. Now the real adventure begins.
TÄRNÄTTVATTNET
Just before Näskebodarna, we turn towards Tärnättvattnen, which is located in the middle of the National Park. We ascend along polished rocks.
SLÅTTDALSSKREVAN
After Tärnättvattnet, we head towards the mighty Slåttdasskrevan. We will pass by the side of this magnificent monument as it is no longer advisable to go through it. However, you will get close and can take pictures.
SLÅTTDALSBERGET
The trail up to Slåttdalsberget is steep, but you have cairns to help you, and once at the top, the views are absolutely stunning.
STAMPBERGET
We descend the southern side of Slåttdalsberget and then turn to ascend Stampberget, offering more magnificent views of the World Heritage Site.
ENERGY STATION DAL
We leave the National Park through its western parts and eventually arrive at Dal. Congratulations – you have completed the first stage!
ENERGY STATION 1: 15km
When you arrive at Dal, you also reach the first energy station with protein bars, chocolate balls, and water.
CUT-LINE STAGE I
Stage I closes at 18:00. If you haven’t completed the first 15 kilometers within 4 hours, you will be transported back to FriluftsByn.

Stage II: 5km
HIGH COAST TRACK
The easiest stretch of the distance. From the Energy Station in Dal, we start on a forest road before entering the High Coast Trail and heading towards Skuleberget. Beautiful trail running where you can relax a bit. (Or relax and relax – but you get what we mean.)
ENERGY STATION 2: 20km
When you arrive at the E4 crossing, you also reach the second energy station with water, energy drink, banana, energy bar.
CUT-LINE STAGE II
Stage II closes at 19:00. If you haven’t completed the first 20 kilometers within 5 hours, you will be transported back to FriluftsByn.

Etapp III: 6k
SKULEBERGET
NATURE RESERVE
From the Energy Station and the E4 passage, we first have a nice run towards the base of Mount Skuleberget. But soon, a real test awaits where with every step, you’re rewarded with more and more dramatic views over the World Heritage Site. When you reach the top, you can gaze out over the World Heritage Site and then set off on the High Coast Trail down towards the Finish Line in FriluftsByn. You’re awesome!
E4 PASSAGE
Immediately after the energy station, we pass over the E4 highway on a crossing used by hikers and runners year-round. Visibility is good in both directions, and we cross carefully.
EASTERN MOUNTAIN TRAIL
This is one of the more demanding passages of Coast to Summits – you’ll be taking big steps rather than jogging the approximately 2.5 kilometers that take you to the top of the World Heritage Site.
MOUNT SKULEBERGET PEAK
You did it! Step by step, you made it up, and now you’re standing there, looking out, feeling really proud of yourself. Take a selfie, shed a tear if you need to. Now, it’s just downhill from here!
HIGH COAST PATHWAY
And what a finale. We descend along the High Coast pathway / Eastern Mountain pathway – one of Sweden’s most beautiful tracks. As you approach FriluftsByn, you’ll hear the cowbells and the music. You’re almost there now.
FINISH LINE
With the finish line ahead, somehow you find the energy for a final sprint and a triumphant finish. Now you stand there, gasping for breath. Happy. You did it, hero!
