RULES & SAFETY

Here you can read more about the rules that apply when registering for the Höga Kusten Winter Trail and how we strive to make your participation as safe as possible. However, there is a great responsibility on us as organizers but also on you as a participant, so make sure to also read the text under ”participation is at your own risk”.

Rules

The Trail is tough. The rules are simple. As long as you understand that you participate at your own risk, bring the mandatory equipment, check in on time, follow the marked trail, and refrain from littering, you can focus on the challenge and on where you place your feet.

Cancellation & Accident Insurance

Start places in Höga Kusten Trail are non-refundable, even with a doctor’s certificate. Participation in Höga Kusten Trail is also at your own risk. Running trail races can involve risks such as clothes or equipment breaking or injuring yourself. Make sure you have valid accident insurance. For example, you can take out the Startklar insurance, which covers both cancellation and accident insurance.

You will receive the full registration fee back without any deductible if you become ill or injured and cannot participate. This should be supported by a medical certificate. Startklar costs 155 SEK and is valid for a whole year for all events in Sweden that you register for. Read more at www.startklar.nu.

This insurance is used by most races in Sweden, including, for example, Vasaloppet. If we as the organizer cancel the race, you will get your registration fee back, regardless of insurance. However, insurance is needed if you cancel your registration for the race yourself.

You can transfer your start place to another person – in that case, an administrative fee of 100 SEK applies. – Försäkring med Startklar >>

Keep it clean

We place great importance on leaving the area in perfect condition without scattered packaging and wrappers. Therefore, it is absolutely forbidden to leave litter along the course except at the trash bins provided by High Coast Trail at the South Entrance and at the finish line. If any checkpoint official, fellow runner, or guide witnesses a participant littering, they will be immediately disqualified.

Utilization of Toilets

It is allowed to use the toilets available in the national park, at Friluftsbyn, and at FriluftsByns Top Cabin. However, make sure to bring your own toilet paper as it may run out.

Distribution & Drop-Bags

Since distribution of drinks is almost impossible to control, we have chosen to allow audience to provide energy and drinks to participants during the race.

Safety during the High Coast Trail

Running a trail race can entail risks such as clothing or equipment getting damaged or you injuring yourself.

However, we have made every effort to create a safe race.

– The race follows existing trails that we have reinforced with additional markings, making them easier to follow.
– We will establish a large energy station at the southern entrance of Skuleskogen National Park. Intermediate times will also be provided here. This allows us to keep track of your whereabouts as long as you follow the race markings.
– There will be volunteers directing participants and answering questions at the Start, Tärnättvattnet, Tärnättholmarna, Entrance South, Skuleberget, Skuleberget’s Peak, and at the finish line.
– We will have medical personnel at the top and at Entrance South, as well as at the finish line.
– An ambulance team will be stationed at Slåttdalsberget.
– All participants will receive a number to contact the Race Management and will be reminded of the emergency number 112 in case of acute and serious injury.
– As a participant, we encourage you to keep an eye on other participants and report immediately if you notice anything that requires attention from the race management.

PARTICIPATION AT YOUR OWN RISK

As organizers, we naturally have a responsibility to create a race that can be conducted in the safest possible manner. However, we still want to emphasize that your participation in the High Coast Trail is entirely at your own risk. Running a trail race can entail risks such as clothing or equipment getting damaged, or you injuring yourself. There are rocks and roots on the trails, and some sections are steep, requiring you to take personal responsibility and perhaps even reduce your pace to minimize the risk of running in terrain. However, we only traverse existing trails visited by thousands of visitors throughout the year, so there are no sections more risky than those where the public walks and jogs on the trails during the rest of the year. But that doesn’t mean there’s no risk. There’s always a risk of you or your equipment getting damaged, especially when you’re tired and in the event of precipitation, where roots, in particular, become slippery. Therefore, there’s a significant responsibility on you as a participant.

We at High Coast Trail do not cover any costs if you are injured or if your equipment is damaged. If you have a cold or are experiencing pain, we advise you not to start. There will be medical support on-site in the form of ambulance personnel.

Upon registration, you will be required to acknowledge that you have read and accepted the text below:
